Stellantis Unveils Breakthrough EV Battery, Charging Network Expands Globally
Stellantis has revealed its new IBIS (Intelligent Battery Integrated System), developed with Saft. By integrating the inverter and charger directly into the battery, the system improves efficiency by 10%, cuts vehicle weight by 40 kg, and reduces charging time by about 1 hour. Road tests are already underway with the Peugeot e-3008.
Meanwhile, charging infrastructure is expanding worldwide. The U.S. is adding record numbers of fast-charging ports, expected to reach 100,000 by 2027, though federal funding delays remain a challenge. In India, compact fast-charging systems over 1 MW are being developed, while Australia has launched its first overhead fast-charging depot for electric buses.
The industry continues to face hurdles such as funding delays, grid stress, and technology standards. Still, rapid innovation and global investment are paving the way for faster, lighter, and more accessible EV adoption.
